How do I credit songwriters for my release?

Traditionally, "songwriter" is an umbrella term that is used to encompass both the writer of the composition (think the notes, melody, the music) and the writer of the lyrics. At SoundOn, the Songwriter role is broken down into two categories: Lyricist and Songwriter.

The Lyricist will be the writer of the song's lyrics.
The Songwriter will be the writer of the song's composition.

One person can be in both roles, of course, or they can be in only one. In either case, it is important to note that Songwriter and Lyricist names must be registered with their full legal names.
Many DSPs have recently strictened up their metadata requirements, and now require legal names to be entered in the songwriter field.
Please be sure to only enter full legal names in these fields. Submitting an artist name, or an abbreviation ("Todd M") will result in a rejection from our moderators.

Crediting Multiple Songwriters/Lyricists

To credit multiple songwriters on a track, simply enter the first full name and then hit "Enter" on your keyboard.
The name entered will appear in a box, and you will be able to enter an additional name.
Repeat as many times as necessary until all songwriters have been credited.
